We were called out to a facility (where the owner accepted a cheap quote) now suffering the consequences of a very poorly designed, installed and maintained walk-in freezer room refrigeration system installation.

Here is our observations as made on site.

Preliminary fault diagnoses - front freezer room

→ There were no visible evidence of "water logged panels" as claimed by the company who did the installation.
→ There are problems around the sliding door, but it is not the cause of the current temperature losses being experienced.
→ The air-cooled condensers are undersized for their application.
→ A well-designed system will most definitely NOT REQUIRE water to be sprayed onto the condensers to cool them down during hot days. This is absurd.
→ The compressor shows evidence of high discharge temperatures.
→ As a result, there will be a gradual loss in capacity over time, followed by an eventual premature failure of the compressor.
→ The current refrigeration equipment is under sized and thus will not succeed in maintaining -25°C with a full product load of 75 000kg.
→ The current refrigeration equipment refrigeration capacity is 32.940kw, which will yield a room temperature of -25°C under ideal conditions ONLY.
→ We would recommend a refrigeration capacity of 54.000kw to maintain a room temperature of -25°C with a full product load of 75 000kg.
→ We also recommend a custom designed air curtain. This will reduce the moisture entering the room. It will also reduce temperature fluctuations.
